Happy New Year

Yesterday I drove to Sweden to get our daughter who had been staying on with my parents.
She both has a good camera, and knows how to use it (with a little help from my Dad) so here it comes - some Magical Moonlight Pictures!

Isn't it magical?
It's incredible it is at night time.
The world turns into shimmering white and sharp black.
And it is so silent.

Below is the small house that we live in when visiting.

And below is the house where the world's best parents live.
Daytime now.

When we drove home earlier today, the scenery was fantastic.
What a last day of the year!
We are going to round it up with another moonlight ride tonight, my daughter and I.
Tomorrow more snow is going to fall, and on the following days there will be skies. So maybe it is the last opportunity tonight, or even this winter.

I will leave you with the pictures from the ride home this time, but if you want to read some horse stuff, pop over to my friends Siri's blog.
She has gone English, and have put down some interesting posts about her weekend training just before Christmas.

Once again - A Happy New Year to you all!
May it come with many happy horse-y moments, wonderful rides and may it keep you safe and sound.
All the best!
Maria

Thanks to my daughter for all the pictures.

Happy New Year!
And fantastic pictures!
I've managed to get sick with the flu, so I'll watch the fireworks through the window this year...

Amazingly beautiful pictures Maria. Hope your moonlight ride is very special tonight. It should be as I hear the moon will be blue. So once in a blue moon to take a moonlit ride should be extra special.

Happy New Year to you and your family and animals.

Those are some amazing photos. Like the ones you see on beautiful greeting cards. I can't imagine being surrounded by all that icy beauty.
I wish you and your animals all the best in 2010.

Stunning. Absolutely stunning. Not quite as much snow, but my view in Canada looks very similar.

These are just awesome, beautiful scenes. I can't believe it's so light at night. Is it difficult to go to bed (or get Elin to go to sleep) when it looks so gorgeous and alive out? Is it like this for months and months?

Since I still have two kids at home (4 are at university) I can go ride after everyone is fed and read to. It gets dark here about 5:30 right now. Yesterday was a little different than usual. Both of my little girls (8 and 6) wanted to ride their ponies. We didn't get to the barn until after 3 p.m. so they were still riding at dark. My husband came and watched them awhile and then took them home for dinner so I could ride.
I have a new Oldenburg mare that has been a broodmare for four years. I am only working on her fitness at this point, not riding yet. So I lunge her and pony her on the hills.
By the time this was done, the moon was up, and though it wasn't nearly like it is where you are, it was very bright and beautiful here, too. I don't have a covered or lit arena, but I went ahead and rode my mare. I love her so much. She is getting very fit with her own hill work and dressage and takes longer and longer to begin focus on her work. Your post regarding Fame and the stage she is in with all of the 'looking' and 'spooking' really hit home with me. I have found several times with good-minded, normally trustworthy horses, as their fitness increases, they get a little (or even a LOT) silly. Since this is the third horse this has happened with, I think it's no coincidence that the two are connected.
Let us know how your antelope is doing...=)

Thanks for your greetings and comments all!

It is absolutely lovely outside right now.
DQwB - it is no problem to sleep. The pics looks slightly lighter than in reality, but it is not much. Truly amazing.
My antelope is doing well, thank you! We had some nice training before Xmas (Jimmi-training too) and I was quite happy as he thought we were doing well. In my opinion we have mostly been training on spooking, but it must have been some good work in between, lol!

Now we are back to familiar ground in the outdoor arenas, so hopefully we can concentrate a bit more on the work!

What a beautiful sight. I appreciate the glimpses into your horse world so much. I love the concept of the good footing coming with the snow. Here it means long hours in a dusty indoor arena.
