Childishly fun

I am 47.
I have been riding for 41 years.
And I still think it is superduperMEGA-FUN!
After returning home from the project in France, I am so happy to be back with the horses, and I get really disappointed if I miss out riding one day.
(OK,OK, when it was raining cats and dogs the other day, we took a day off)
Isn't it amazing?
I mean, after over 40 years. That it still makes you as excited as a 10 yo with pink brushes and a new riding helmet, waiting for the the riding school lesson to start, and hoping, hoping to get the favourite horse.
Except I get my favourite every time.
*smirk*
Fame is so fun to work with these days.
I am just like a 10 year-old.

I feel the same way as you. If I miss a few days a week (as I usually do because of grown-up obligations) I feel disappointed. I wish there were time to ride everyday, it is fun for me and I hope for the horses. I guess no matter how old we get the desire to be with horses never ends.

It's a great feeling, isn't it? I missed out on some years of riding, so I'm making up for lost time!

I think it is absolutely wonderful that you still get the same thrill you did as a child. Horses seem to be a elixir. I hope you have another 40+ years of feeling 10! :-)

I always comment how at 33 and on my 5th-ish horse I am a pony clubber with my first pony now. Never mind that he's a 16.3 OTTB, he still loves when I go and hang out with him and play with his lips then scratch behind his ears. And obviously, I'm a smitten little kid, so of course it makes me happy, too. :)

Sigh...so sweet, your sentiments and my heart is -soo smiling- with every TRUE word you said!
Ride on, in joy, and contentment of a 10 yr old!

Thanks for your comments all!

Here the autumn rains have kicked in lately, and it's been so dark too.
I must say that it has reduced my enthusiasm somewhat...
On the other hand I am looking forward to the weekend, where we are once again having a training weekend with Jimmi. Indoors!

I feel EXACTLY the same way! I am 43 and have been riding for 35 years (with 9 years off to start my daughter Maizie out well in life) and everyday is just as exciting as the first! I am horse crazy.

Hi Juliette, and welcome!
I am happy to hear that there are more overaged 10 year-olds out there :-)
I had a super training session today, and it makes me happy just to think about it!

i was just saying the same thing to someone today! i've been in love with horses since the first time i saw one and it just never gets old! i couldn't imagine even a day of my life without horses in it. even the days when i don't get to ride - which are more often than i'd like :-( i still get a thrill just walking into the barn or spotting them out in the field. so glad you get to enjoy yours too! :-) we are super lucky, aren't we? :-)

jme - yes, aren't we lucky!

It has been creeping back. Too many years as "serious trainer girl" almost took it away. But no more!

Mugs - I can understand that riding for a living kind of takes some of the fun out of it.
Our horses have had summer vacation, and I was away on the project before that - so I am at the red zone low level right now...top motivated!

So true! We ride ponies, don't we? They turn back the clock for us!

Unrelated note: I want to go to Normandy in 2014. Do you know of any equestrian blogs in French so I can practice my rusty French language skills? Merci!

Odyssey - lucky you!

I am sorry, but I do not know of any French blogs.
Why don't you check with Trudi and Di on lionhearthorses and Le Puy (look at blog list on the right)?
They are English, but live in France.
Maybe they can recommend someone?

Hi there I have just found your blog and have really enjoyed reading about your horsey adventures and I did enjoy the London photos. I used to live for 3 years in covent garden right at the seven dials so it was awesome to see ....brought back memories and gooly gosh soooo different to New Zealand

Hi Sally, and welcome!
Yes, I suppose London is different to New Zealand?
I have never been to NZ, but I dream of going there some day. It looks beautiful.
It is the antipode to us you know. Quite as far away as could be!
